How Do You Share a Gaussian Splat With an Agent or Buyer?

Quick Answer

Share a hosted link, never the raw file. For a quick look, a superspl.at, Polycam, Scaniverse or Insta360 link works, but those pages carry the host's name or creator credit and links back to the host. For listings, use a host that gives the agent a branded link for marketing and an unbranded one for the MLS. That link can go on the agent's website, in a QR code on the flyer, and in a text to a buyer.

You trained the splat, cleaned it up, and it looks great on your laptop. Now the agent wants it, and the agent's buyers want it on their phones. The file itself is no help to either of them. Here are the ways photographers are sharing splats right now, and where each one fits.

Why not just send the file?

A .ply or .sog file needs a splat viewer to open, and agents do not have one. Even if they did, they cannot put a file on the MLS, a website, or a flyer. What they need is a URL that opens in any browser, works on a phone, and can be pasted anywhere. So the real question is where the splat lives and what the page around it looks like.

Can you share it straight from SuperSplat?

Yes, and it is free. From the SuperSplat editor you can publish the scene to superspl.at, which gives you a share link and an embed code. The scene page shows the viewer next to your name, linking to your SuperSplat profile, plus view counts, likes, comments, and a carousel of suggested splats from other creators. That is fine for sending a draft to an agent. It is not something to hand a buyer as the listing's tour.

The embed code is cleaner: it loads just the viewer from superspl.at in an iframe. It still runs on SuperSplat's site, and its info panel links out to SuperSplat and the viewer's open-source code. PlayCanvas also converts published scenes to a streamed format so they open fast on phones, which is a real advantage.

What about Polycam, Luma, Scaniverse, and Insta360 links?

Most capture apps can share a splat on their own web viewer. All of them are built for sharing captures, not for listings, so expect the app's branding.

  • Polycam: per its pricing page, the free plan has public link sharing. Embeds start on the Basic plan with a watermark, and embeds with your own branding are on Enterprise.
  • Luma: the Luma capture app gives you a public link and an embed code on Luma's site.
  • Scaniverse: scans get a link at scaniverse.com/scan/ plus the scan ID, and there is an option to get embed code.
  • Insta360: the new Spatial Capture feature for recent X-series cameras processes video into a splat in the cloud and gives you an interactive web link. Reports say clips are limited to two minutes each and links can expire, so it suits a room or a yard more than a whole house for now.

When does a dedicated host make sense?

Once a splat is part of a paid listing package, the agent needs it in three places: their own marketing, the MLS, and a buyer's phone. A tour host built for real estate covers all three from one upload. On PFRE Tour, you upload the .sog to the listing's tour, pick the opening view, preview it, and publish for $15. The walkthrough then shows:

  • Inside the branded tour, behind an "Explore in 3D" button, so it never slows down the photos
  • On the unbranded MLS version of the tour, unless you turn it off
  • At a stand-alone full-screen link, pfretour.com/3d/ plus the tour number, showing only the address, with no branding and no links off the page

It never shows on the strict photos-only MLS version. Phones that cannot run 3D still get the full photo tour. The details are on our 3D walkthrough hosting page.

How do you get it onto a website, a flyer, or a phone?

Agent websites. Most hosts give you an embed code, which is an iframe. If yours does not, the agent's web person can put the walkthrough link in a standard iframe. Give it real height, allow fullscreen, and check it on a phone. A splat squeezed into a small box on a busy page is hard to drive with a thumb.

Flyers and signs. Print a QR code that points to the full-screen link. Whatever it points to has to load quickly on a phone and start from a good view, because that scan is the buyer's first impression.

Email and text. Send the plain link. It should open in the phone's browser with no app and no login. Include the photo tour link too, since some older phones will not run 3D well. For more on handing off work, see how to deliver real estate photos.

Which links are safe for the MLS?

MLS virtual tour fields usually require an unbranded link: no agent or photographer names, no contact details, and no links to other sites. Our guide to branded vs. unbranded tour links covers the rules. Measured against them:

  • superspl.at scene page: not MLS-safe. Creator name, profile link, comments, and suggested splats.
  • superspl.at embed: cleaner, but it lives on SuperSplat's site and links out from its info panel. Ask your MLS.
  • Polycam, Luma, Scaniverse, Insta360 links: app branding and links back to the app. Good for clients, risky for the MLS.
  • A branded tour page: for the agent's marketing, not the MLS.
  • An unbranded tour or 3D link with no names and no outbound links: built for the MLS field.

Even with an unbranded link, confirm that your MLS accepts 3D tours in that field. Some allow photos only.

Frequently asked questions

Can I just email the splat file to my client?

You can, but most agents and buyers have nothing to open a .ply or .sog file with. Send a hosted link instead. It opens in a phone or desktop browser with no app, and the agent can paste it anywhere.

Can I put a SuperSplat link on the MLS?

Usually not the scene page. A superspl.at scene page shows the creator's name with a link to their profile, comments, and suggested splats from other people, which is the kind of outbound content MLS rules restrict. Check your MLS rules before using any third-party viewer link in the virtual tour field.

How do I put a 3D walkthrough on an agent's website?

Use the embed code from your host, or put the walkthrough link inside a standard iframe. Give it a fixed height, allow fullscreen, and test it on a phone, because a splat inside a small box on a busy page is harder to use than the full-screen link.

What is the best way to share a splat with buyers on a flyer?

Print a QR code that points to a full-screen link. Buyers scan it with their phone camera, so the link should open fast on a phone, start from a good opening view, and not need an app or a login.
